Swabs and Kits

As the largest organ in the human body, one of the main functions of the skin is to provide a protective barrier against harmful substances. Contact with hazardous substances whether directly or via a surface that has been contaminated with the hazardous substance can cause a range of health problems. Some of these are localised to the skin and can result in irritation, allergic responses, burns, allergic contact dermatitis. In addition to the effects of chemicals directly on skin, the skin can also act as a pathway for chemicals to be absorbed into the body and therefore affect other organs within the body.

What is Surface Sampling?

Surface and dermal samplers play an important part of any occupational health and safety program. Fast, easy to use and accurate swab test kits, wipes and sampling test kits are important tools to help identify work practises that may result in exposure, educating workers about prevention and reinforcing safe work practises.

Whether you are testing for metals such as lead or chromium or testing for methamphetamines or fungal spores, Air-Met Scientific offers a wide range of swab test kits and wipes to help you effectively identify surface or dermal hazards.

Surface Sampling Test Kits

Skin exposure to chemicals in the workplace can cause a range of health problems, especially when absorption can occur without being noticed by the worker. From amine and lead test kit to meth home test kits, Air-Met Scientific offers a range of effective swab test kits and surface wipe kits to effectively detect the presence of surface hazards for on-the-spot screening of at-risk surfaces. Air-Met Scientific offers a complete range of surface and skin sampling swab test kits and indicators from CLI and SKC Inc that are ideal for testing a variety of chemicals including:

  • Lead
  • Aromatic amines
  • Aromatic isocyanates
  • Aliphatic amines
  • Isocyanate
  • Hydrazine
  • Acid/Bases
  • Metals such as lead and chromium

Testing for lead paint can be conducted in a variety of ways. For many applications, lead testing kits are used which often employ a single use colourimetric testing swab which provides near instant indication of whether lead is present on a surface, simply snap, swipe then see the results. For more detailed analysis, samples can be taken and sent to a laboratory for testing. Lead testing kits provide a simple, time-efficient and cost-effective method for field testing.

Lead test kits, including instant colourimetric lead testing swabs, are available from Air-Met Scientific. Contact one of our 6 offices across Australia in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Mackay, Perth or Adelaide to discuss your lead testing needs today.

Methamphetamine residue detection tests, including SKC’s MethChek field testing kits, are available from Air-Met Scientific. These tests are ideal for a range of applications including property testing for methamphetamine residuals. Reach out to any of our six offices across Australia in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Mackay, Perth, or Adelaide and speak to one of our friendly representatives today.

Colourimetric surface swabs such as HexChecks Chromium-6 are commonly used as an initial, quick and accurate way to determine whether hexavalent chromium is present on a surface. Lab analysis can be conducted to obtain the highest level of precision as well as additional information such as the concentration of hexavalent chromium present.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) testing kits are used to detect whether hexavalent chromium is present on a surface. Testing is usually done using colourimetric swabs containing reagents that change colour when they come into contact with hexavalent chromium. It is vital that hexavalent chromium is identified on surfaces as exposure can cause skin and eye irritation, damage to organs and even cancer. Once identified, steps can be taken to decontaminate the surface. Neutraliser solutions are available that simply require the user to spray and wipe the surface to decontaminate it. Hexavalent chromium detections swabs and neutralisers are both available from Air-Met Scientific.
