Ensure Accurate Water Quality Data with Essential Consumables and Accessories for Every Project

To ensure precise and reliable water quality assessments, having quality consumables is essential. Our selection includes everything you need to ensure precision and prevent cross-contamination throughout your sampling and monitoring projects. Our range includes everything from basic consumables such as gloves and tubing to more advanced groundwater consumables like foot valves, flow cells, filtration units and more. Some of the most common water quality consumables and accessories that are available include:

  • Filters: In-line filters are designed to remove particulates from your sample, protecting your meters and ensuring accurate readings. We offer a variety of filters sizes to suit your specific needs, including high turbidity 0.45 micron groundwater filters for heavily silted samples.
  • Tubing: We offer tubing in a range of materials, including low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), silicone, and PFAS-Free options. Our disposable tubing is available in various diameters, such as 3/8", 1/4", 1/2", and 5/8", to ensure compatibility with a wide range of sampling and extraction pumps.
  • Bailers: Essential for groundwater sampling or collection, our range of bailers includes high density polyethylene (HDPE), clear PVC polyethylene, and eco-friendly reusable bailers. We have bailers available in a wide variety of lengths, volumes and diameters, in weighted and non-weighted varieties.
  • Foot valves: Foot valves are used to control water flow in places such as groundwater monitoring wells. Depending on your sampling requirements, our foot valves are available in four performance ranges, including standard flow, high flow, low flow, and micro flow.
  • Calibration solutions: When it comes to assessing the quality of water, it is crucial that sampling equipment is properly calibrated to ensure precise assessments. For maximum accuracy and reliability of field and lab instruments, our range includes salinity standard, pH buffer, turbidity standard, and other calibration solutions. Our portable field calibration rig is also perfect for use in the field as it can hold up to 8 solutions in a rugged carry case, making it easy for users to conduct calibrations in the field.
  • Decontamination solutions: To prevent cross-contamination across various applications, we offer an extensive selection of concentrated decontamination solutions. Our range includes PFAS-free decontamination options, and solutions for cleaning and decontaminating a wide range of materials such as glassware, ceramics, rubbers, plastics, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

High-density polyethylene tubing (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene tubing (LDPE) are both types of polyethylene, a polymer of ethylene. HDPE and LDPE are distinguished by their molecular structures. LDPE has a more branched structure, whereas HDPE consists of long chains with minimal branching. As a result of these structural differences, HDPE molecules are packed tightly (high-density) and therefore have a greater tensile strength than LDPE. This means that HDPE is often used in applications where environmental and operating conditions are rougher, and durability or heat resistance is required. On the other hand, LDPE is used where the material is required to be flexible. Additionally, HDPE is less likely to leach PFAS (per-fluoroalkyl substances) than LDPE.

Foot valves are used to prevent water from flowing backwards when the pump is not in use. They operate by opening during the downstroke and closing on the upstroke so that water continually travels up the tube and samples can be brought to the surface. Preventing backflow helps ensure neither the well or samples are contaminated and ensures the pump remains primed for accurate and reliable samples to be collected.

Groundwater sampling bailers are simple, portable devices used to collect water samples from monitoring wells. They consist of a hollow tube with a check valve at the bottom, which allows water to enter when lowered into the well and prevents it from escaping when retrieved. Bailers can be used both for collecting samples and purging wells.

The personal protective equipment (PPE) required depends on several factors including the type of sampling and the environment where the sampling is undertaken. Disposable rubber gloves should always be worn for water sampling as the water can be hazardous, particularly if contaminated, and also to prevent contamination of the sample. Other PPE is dependent on the sampling environment such as no slip shoes, waders or eye protection.

Calibration solutions are used to calibrate groundwater monitoring or water quality equipment. These solutions provide a known parameter such as the pH level to ensure that the instrument is measuring that parameter accurately.

A range of calibration solutions for various water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, conductivity and salinity are available for sale at Air-Met Scientific. Contact your local rental team for an extensive list or to enquire about your specific needs.
