Health effects of high frequency fields

Electromagnetic fields have been known to have certain biological effects which may be detrimental to human health. Health effects from over-exposure to high frequency electromagnetic fields include burns and tissue damage. The effects of electromagnetic fields and the extent of the health effects is dependent on a few factors including:

  • the frequency 
  • the field strength 
  • the field type (E or H field) 
  • the duration of the exposure
  • the extent of the exposure (how much of the body has been exposed to radiation)
  • the signal shape

National and international bodies have specified limit values for electromagnetic radiation specified to protect people from harmful exposure. An electromagnetic frequency meter measures the strength of the radiation at the location of the meter. SRM-3006 Field Strength AnalyserThe SRM-3006 is a compact handheld EMF monitor that consists of a base unit and measuring antennas for non-directional detection of high-frequency electromagnetic fields and their sources in the range of 9 kHz to 6 GHz. Ideal for safety analysis and environmental measurements of high-frequency EMFs. 

NBM-500 Broadband Field Meter Series: The Narda Broadband Field Meter NBM-550 is part of the NBM 500 series. It is designed to detect high-frequency electric and magnetic fields with non-ionising radiation frequencies of up to 300 GHz for personal safety. NBM-500 is renowned for its precise, reproducible and calibrated measurements. It is also ideal for measurements in the laboratory as well as for the detection of leaks in high-frequency lines or devices.
