Precisely and Efficiently Identify Leaks with the SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL Leak Detector

Air-Met Scientific is pleased to announce the latest in SF6 and C4-FN gas leak detection – introducing the ION Science SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL Leak Detector. Superseding the SF6 LeakCheck P1:p, the ION Science SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL was designed to tackle a critical customer problem: identifying SF6 as well as C4-FN leaks with unrivalled precision and accuracy.

Due to its stable molecular structure, sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) is widely used in electric utilities infrastructure in high voltage transmission systems for insulation, circuit breakers, arc quenching and more. Whilst the vast majority of SF6 emissions are due to its use in electrical power systems, it is also used in various medical fields for a range of purposes such as ultrasound imaging and even in certain ophthalmic surgical procedures.

Despite the wide-spread use of SF6, it is known to be one of the most potent greenhouse gases, with a global warming potential 23,500 times higher than carbon dioxide. SF6 is usually inert, however, it can produce byproducts that are toxic to humans when it is exposed to electrical discharges in certain situations. SF6 may still be dangerous in its inert, relatively non-toxic state because it can displace oxygen in the lungs, acting as a simple asphyxiant. The potential environmental and human impacts of the compound merit close monitoring of systems which use SF6 gas to ensure that it is stored correctly and effectively.

Key Features of the SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL Leak Detector

Capable of detecting C4-FN – Used as an alternative to SF6, C4-FN (a type of PFAS) mixtures also are thought to have a significant global warming potential (although less than SF6) and may be harmful to people. For comprehensive detection, the SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL is capable of efficiently detecting C4-FN as well as SF6.

Rugged trolley style protector case – Not only does the case provide smooth and easy transportation of the SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL, but it also includes a docking station to charge the wireless handgun on the go and in the field.

Exceptional sensitivity – Two sensitivity models are available. The standard sensitivity model measures up 1.0E-7 cc/sec, 1 ppm, and 0.01 g/a whereas the HIGHSense model measures up to 1.0E-8 cc/sec, 0.1 ppm, and 0.001 g/a. Both models can detect even the smallest leaks ensuring workers are safe from even small degrees of SF6 exposure.

Rapid response and recovery time – The use of Negative Ion Capture Technology allows the SF6 LeakCheck P1 XTL to deliver a T90 and T10 response time of approximately 0.5 seconds. Additionally, the technology enables the instrument to be used with no warm-up or stabilisation time and ensure the instrument can quickly recover even when exposed to 100% SF6.

Unparalleled ease of use – By default the instrument is set in ‘search mode’, just turn it on and the instrument will begin searching for leaks. The SF6 LeakCheck XTL’s self-diagnostic capabilities ensure consistent high performance and an easily replaceable SmartSensor that has a lifetime of up to 300 hours contributes to minimal maintenance requirements.
